Special Causes

Our Special Causes section features causes that are dear to our clients' hearts and also a few dear to us too. Our goal is to bring attention for these causes by showcasing them on our website and whenever possible, providing monetary support. We believe that if we all pitch in together, great results can be achieved! If you are a client and would like us to support a Special Cause that is important to you, please contact our Operations Manager, Melissa McEvoy.

VICTIMS OF HOMICIDE
Victims of Homicide Support Society of Edmonton is a self-help group designed to offer emotional support and information about surviving the loss of a loved one to murder. The group provides ongoing emotional support to help parents and other survivors deal with the pain of their loss and rebuild their lives. Victims of Homicide provides a meeting place where bereaved persons can come together on a regular basis to share their grief and recovery.

We lost our brother, Don Hanscom to homicide on July 30, 2004. Don was a great father, wonderful husband, treasured son, fun uncle and a very dear brother. We miss him every day. The hearings and trials for Don lasted almost 6 years until justice was served. Victims of Homicide is a cause close to our heart. We will be donating funds to the V of H, so that they may continue to provide assistance to families that have been affected similar to ours. "As we now walk the streets of life and carry this heartache, we realize that many who walk this life with us also carry heartaches of their own."

THE LLOYDMINISTER & DISTRICT S.P.C.A.
Contrary to popular belief, the S.P.C.A. is not government funded. In fact, other than the general fees collected at the shelter, there is no steady source of income for the Society. Only through generous donations, fundraisers and grants is the S.P.C.A. able to continue paying our monthly bills, staff wages, building upgrades and maintenance, utility expenses, cleaning materials, pet food and supplies, veterinary fees, and all other miscellaneous costs.
